 "Virtual Education Addition to Geriatric Education"

The University of Texas Health Science Center –Houston School of Nursing is located in the 4th largest city in the US, where persons of Hispanic origin and adults over the age of 65 are the fastest growing populations.  The School of Nursing is responding to this growing elderly population with renewed attention to Gerontological nursing practice.  This project is place within the Center on Aging, and interdisciplinary center within the School of Nursing and will enhance our ability to provide statewide leadership for the care of older adults through education of nurses at all levels.

This three year project will allow us to step up our plans in geriatrics and make notable improvement in geriatric education.  This project will assist us in:

• Increasing knowledge of geriatric among students of nursing at all lvelas and among students of many disciplines;
• Strengtheing geriatric and age related research among faculty and students;
• Incresing the opportunity for interdisciplinary geriatric educaton and research; and
• Making our resources available on line for academic and continuing education programs.
